3 hours; 3 credits An analysis of the Baroque style that developed in Italy at the beginning of the 17th century and spread throughout Europe. Particular emphasis will be placed on discussion of the varying intellectual, religious, and socioeconomic factors that affected such important issues as patronage. The role played by the city of Rome will be given particular consideration. (Offered only at the American University of Rome.) Prerequisite: ART 100 or 200 or 201, or permission of the instructor
