This course is an introduction to the sociological study of aging and the analysis of aging and old age in human society, with particular emphasis on “the graying of America.” Duringthe semester students examine issues including identity and roles of elders; retirement and leisure; continuum of care in the community; housing; long-term care; aging families and relationships in old age; care giving; social policy issues and medical coverage; death; life review; and components of successful aging.
