3 credits, Fall, Spring This course is designed to introduce students to some of the many complex, yet fascinating, processes of the human body. The course begins with a review of basic principles of chemistry. This introduction is followed by a limited discussion of cellular structure and metabolism. Subsequently the basic structure and functions of selected organ systems are discussed. The course also introduces students to some of the newer advances in medical and research technology that are impacting our society, e.g. cloning, recombinant DNA technology, genetic engineering, stem cell research, and gene therapy.
