Description:
Students learn to use writing to develop their thinking and to read texts critically for both form and content. They practice different writing processes and rhetorical strategies in order to write essays that are purposeful, thoughtful, and coherent, and that conform to the conventions of standard written English. They understand writing as a social and collaborative process, both as a mode of individual expression and as a rhetorical act. Prerequisite- Corequisite Prerequisite: Placement Test. Students who earn a score of 85 or higher on the NYS ELA may enroll directly into ENG 110 without taking the Placement Test.
