3 HOURS, 3 CREDITS Th is course focuses on a variety of therapeutic issues and counseling techniques involved in the treatment of alcoholism. Initial interviewing, diagnostic assessment, consultation with family members and development of a treatment plan are studied. Emphasis is placed on developing methods for maintaining a therapeutic alliance and dealing with acting out and resistance. Technical problems in interviewing, leading groups and working with families are explored through the use of case material and role playing methods. Prerequisites: ENG 101 and PSY 101
