2 HOURS, 1 CREDIT Introduction leading to the acquisition of advanced skills in stances, punches, kicks, formal exercise, prearranged sparring and free-sparring. History and philosophy of karate will be explored through assigned readings, lectures, discussions and a fi eld trip. Practice in directing and judging competitors and familiarization with Metropolitan Intercollegiate Karate League rules. Voluntary participation in intramural and intercollegiate competitions. Prepares students for promotion. Th is is an activity course. Students may apply no more than four credits of activity courses toward their degree requirements. Th ere is no restriction on the number of three-credit physical education courses that can be used to fulfi ll elective requirements.
