Fall and Spring Semesters (tutorial) Explores issues related to mentoring urban adolescents and integrates practical experiences in mentoring with discussion of theoretical issues. Topics include issues in urban life which impact on mentees, relevant aspects of adolescent psychology, appreciation of diversity, and communication skills for establishing effective mentoring relationships (e.g., inter-cultural communication, conflict resolution, empathic listening, perspective taking, etc.) The course also involves ongoing reflection on cognitive and emotional aspects of the mentor’s experience. The course requires a substantial commitment of time and personal energies to establish and maintain effective mentoring relationships. (Same course as ED 2350). This course meets the international/ multicultural requirement. Co-requisite: COM 2350P.
