The Black Experience in Literature course covers literary works by African-American writers from slave narratives and folk tales to the literary flowering of the Harlem Renaissance, the fiction and drama of the fifties and sixties, and masterpieces by contemporary writers. Students will read, discuss, and analyze these works to gain an appreciation and an understanding of the literature itself as well as the African-American experience.
