This course is a study of the fundamental principles of organic chemistry with emphasis on reaction mechanisms. Topics covered include alkanes, stereochemistry, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, expoxides, solvents, alkenes, dienes, alkynes, and cyclic compounds. Laboratory topics include qualitative analysis and identification of compounds. Also, the experiments will elucidate the basic principles and mechanisms of organic chemistry.
