This course is an introduction to organic chemistry, including hydrocarbons, alcohol, ethers, phenols, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, derivatives of carboxylic acids, and amines. This course also introduces students to biological chemistry, including carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins, enzymes, lipids, and metabolism. Selected laboratory experiments illustrate the reactions and properties of the listed compounds. Also included is an introduction to qualitative and quantitative laboratory techniques.
