Description:
-
Focuses (though not exclusively) on the nuclear rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union, and on how this rivalry has transformed the nature and conduct of world politics. Attention is also given to the implications stemming from the proliferation of nuclear weapons by developing states. The break-up of the Soviet Union and the safety and security of its nuclear arsenal will be considered. Finally, current and recent proposals will be examined in order to assess the prospects for more effective arms control in the future. Prerequisite: any PO200 or PO300 level class, or permission of the instructor.
