Study of the development of case law within the broad areas of civil rights and civil liberties. Specific topics include: freedom of expression under the First Amendment, freedom of and from religion, defendants’ rights, and protection from racial and other forms of discrimination as provided by the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of due process and the “equalprotection of the laws.” Prerequisite: PO352, or permission of the instructor.
