Examination and analysis of the three major literary genres: prose fiction, poetry, and drama. Writing assignments emphasize the formal, thoughtful, “critical”paper, but do not preclude more personal and creative responses. Students develop analytical standards for both reading and writing about literature. The course includes selections from a wide variety of authors. Students may receive credit for only ENG 112 or ENG 114 or ENG 116. Prereq: ENG 101, 103, or 105
