This course focuses on disease and procedural coding with major emphasis on the International Classification of Diseases 9th Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM). It covers DRGs and the prospective payment system for reimbursement; coding principles; conventions; clinical and technical guidelines; maintenance and referencing resources. It also emphasizes the review of medical records to identify diagnoses treated, procedures and/or services performed, and correct sequencing for optimal reimbursement.
