Description:
This course is designed for non-science majors and covers a variety of topics in three major areas: 1) physics--matter and energy, Newtonian mechanics, electricity and magnetism; 2) chemistry--atomic structure, bonding, the periodic table, chemical formulas, and balancing chemical equations; 3) earth science--the solar system, the ocean and atmosphere, tidal effects, weather systems, plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes. This course is particularly recommended for Elementary Education majors but is suitable for all other non-science majors. Three hours lecture. Prerequisite: Completion of mathematics competency or MAT 117 or higher. Offered fall and spring. 3 credits.
