Whether you are a musician, engineer, producer, agent, or manager, you need to know the rules of the game. The business of music swallows up young enthusiastic musicians every day simply because they did not take the time to know how their money is earned and spent. By the end of this course you will have a basic understanding of contract law, copyrighting, patents, and trademark law issues. You will understand the relationship between artists and record companies, publishers, agents, managers, lawyers, and other professionals. This class will also cover performing rights societies (ASCAP, BMI, etc.), advertising and endorsements, and government regulation of the entertainment industry. Course meets off campus at KAJEM Recording Studios. Course fee. 3 credits
