This course is designed to provide students with the basic understanding of viruses, their structures and replication strategies. Emphasis is placed on host virus interactions leading to disease processes and cellular alterations in mammalian systems. Viruses are considered as miniature model systems to unigy biology at the molecular level. This course is approved to cover the capstone requirement for the Biology and Biomedical Sciences majors. Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisite: BIOS 3120; Biochemistry is recommended. Notes: The prerequisites to 5000-level courses are: Junior/Senior standing and at least 12 credits in biology including the specific prerequisite for eachcourse.
