Designed for the novice in music, the course places emphasis on rhythmic skills, but also teaches basic concepts of notation, clefs, scales, key signatures, intervals and triads. The rhythm work begins with reading of simple and compound meters and progresses through complex syncopations and polyrhythmic exercises. Students will be able to read and perform rhythmic patterns using a variety of percussion instruments. Additionally, students will be introduced to formal concepts in music such as phrase, period, cadence and abstract formal designs. Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisite: Dance majors and minors only. Credits: 2 hours
