A study of public opinion in the American context and its potential influence on the governmental process. Topics include measurement of public opinion, the psychology of opinion holding, the role of political ideology and party identification, the formation of political attitudes, trends in public opinion, the group basis of public opinion, the influence of public opinion during elections, and the existence of political linkages between public opinion, elected officials and policy decisions.
