This course is an examination of child abuse in American society. Medical, psychological, educational, psychiatric, legal, and treatment perspectives are combined in a social analysis. The origins, family context, nature, extent, and social consequences of child abuse are discussed. Currently practiced social and legal solutions are presented, as well as possible social change required to respond to this phenomenon. Credits: 3 hours
