This course provides an intensive examination of the important issue of crime prevention. Crime prevention is viewed within the larger political process and is related to the etiology of criminal behavior. The utility of general and specific prevention is discussed, looking at techniques and programs of both the police and community including target hardening and methods of decreasing the opportunity for victimization. The security business and various security techniques will also be analyzed. Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisite: SOC 3640. Credits: 3 hours
