An interdisciplinary approach to death as at once a known and an unknown phenomenon: what science can tell us about death; what philosophers have said about death; the examination and critique of recent research concerning the needs of the dying person, the bereavement experiences of the survivors, and children's understanding of death; the significance of death as it relates to human dignity and autonomy.
