A survey of the revolutionary changes in music and ideas that occurred in Italy in the early 1600s; later spreading to such countries as Germany, France, and England. The characteristic techniques and forms of Baroque music will be traced through representative works of such composers as Monteverdi, Corelli, Vivaldi, Purcell, Lully, Rameau, Handel, and J.S.
