A survey of the major movements in jazz from Dixieland through Bop, including the avantgarde movement of the late '60s and early '70s. Focus on the major jazz artists: Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. A consideration of the social and psychological implications of jazz.
