This one semester 3D Sculpture elective course is an introduction to the principles of welding steel, cutting, and fabrication processes both hot and cold. Students will be taught safe working practices in relation to welding and fabrication processes and machinery. The welding processes that will be employed are oxy/acetylene gas welding and cutting, electric metal arc tungsten inert gas, spot welding. Students will be expected through the use of ferrous metal to find ways of expressing themselves as artist and to investigate spatial formal, context issues and be able to verbalize their ideas within the concept of an appreciation of the value of critical evaluation of works of art. Instruction will be given in ways of creating three-dimensional forms in metal solid and hollow as a way of exploring the aesthetic and structural potential of ferrous materials.
