This course introduces the student to materials used in dental practice. Lectures, demonstrations, readings and laboratory activities will assist the student in developing an understanding of the properties, uses and manipulation of amalgam, composite resins, cements, impression materials, gypsum products, waxes, bleaching materials, porcelain and gold. Physical and biological properties will be emphasized and clinical applications will be shown in the laboratory portion of the course. (One hour lecture/2 hours laboratory) Prerequisite: This course is open to students who have attained a grade of ā€œCā€ or better in all attempted dental hygiene courses.
