This course examines the role mass media play in creating and sustaining a democratic and civil society. The major emphasis of the course is to understand the current state of the media and their impact on the citizenry and democratic institutions. The course also reviews the historical turning points that gave birth to major media institutions and scrutinize the role media played to convert the “public” into “masses.” (PHonors Seminar - Open to all majors)
