Electronic Media for Teachers is a hands-on course for the prospective elementary teacher. It is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for the selection, integration, and application of a range of electronic media production technologies and projects into the classroom to meet the diverse needs of all students and learning objectives. The convergence of television and the Internet will be emphasized with a focus on the electronic digital technologies including: digital video, audio, still photography and web-based authoring. Emphasis will be on the use of technology to learn, not just learning how to use the technology. The course will include active viewing, critical thinking and an evaluation of a diverse mix of constructed media messages and products and programs. An awareness of media literacy concepts and the legal and ethical responsibilities will also be emphasized. Topics will include: setting up, operating and troubleshooting equipment, development and integration of media products into the classroom in various content areas and, specific technology issues faced by today's teachers.
