First order differential equations: slope fields, existence and uniqueness theorem, separable, linear, homogeneous and exact equations, elementary numerical methods, and applications. Higher order linear equations: general theory, constant coefficient equations, undetermined coefficients, variation of parameters, and applications. First order sytems: elimination method, elementary numerical methods, matrix method for constant coefficient linear systems. Planar autonomous systems: critical points, trajectories, linearization and local phase portraits at critical points. Laplace transformation: definitions and properties, use to solve initial value problems. Prerequisite: MA 219A. Three hours a week.
