A one-semester course meant for those students who have taken 2 years of high school chemistry with laboratory or AP Chemistry. The placement in the course will be decided on the basis of a placement test and on the basis of recommendations from the science teacher. Chemistry and Biology majors are encouraged to take this challenging course in place of CH 111A and CH 112A. The syllabus will include: review of preliminary concepts (4-6 lectures), chemical bonding, intermolecular forces, chemical kinetics, acid-base, solubility and complex equilibria, redox chemistry, electrochemistry with quantitative applications of these principles. Three lectures, one recitation and one laboratory per week.
