An introduction to the chemistry of the representative elements. Fundamental theories of bonding are reviewed, and extended to include multicenter and cluster bonding. Emphasis is placed on understanding and predicting chemical trends, and the interpretation of physical data. Applications of thermodynamics and kinetics to inorganic chemistry are discussed. Prerequisite: CH 231A. Pre- or corequisite: CH 222A. Offered every other year in the spring semester alternating with CH 432A. Three lectures per week.
