A survey of the fruitful approaches to philosophy on the Continental European scene. Authors to be discussed include the Germans Husserl, Heidegger, and Habermas, as well as the French Derrida, Foucault, and Lyotard. Special attention is given to Gadamer’s hermeneutics.Prerequisites: PH 112A and another course in philosophy or the permission of the instructor. Three hours a week.
