Origin and significance of material objects which give us insight into American History. Topics include Native American culture, colonial New England architecture and lifestyle, and the early industrialization of the Lower Merrimack Valley in order to familiarize the student with the basic tools of material culture. Attendance at on-site lectures and original research projects required of each stu-dent. Prerequisite: permission of the instructor. Three hours a week. American History Minor: TEACHER OF HISTORY. HI 326A History of American Architecture 3 cr. American architecture in its cultural context from the 17th to the late 20th centuries. Particular attention to the contributions of such architects as Jefferson, Bulfinch, Latrobe, Davis, Richardson, Sullivan, Wright and Mies van der Rohe. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week.
