An introduction to literature on the visual arts of the Western world from antiquity to the present. Emphasis will be placed on contemporary methodological approaches to art and architecture that are currently being practiced and examined as independent topics of inquiry within the discipline and history of art. Slide/lecture and discussion. Required of all Fine Arts majors. Fall and Spring semesters. Prerequisite: FA 161A and FA 162A or consent of the instructor. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week.
