Examination of classical approaches to rhetoric to determine their effect on modern writing. Emphasis on how ideas are discovered and arranged received and debated through submission of several written papers as well as an oral presentation. Careful reading of writers from the period such as Plato, Aristotle, Quintilian, and Cicero. Prerequisite: EN105A or exemption. Before 1800. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week.
