Description:

3 credits This course uses the issues of the body and sport in society to explore social stratification (e.g., social class, gender, and race). We discuss how bodies are not only biological entities, but also socially defined by different groups in their quest for social power. These insights lead to an examination of social change from different theoretical perspectives (e.g., pluralism, critical theory, and Bourdieu’s cultural theory).
