3 credits each Prerequisites: CHE 111 and 112. Corequisites: CHE 253 and 254. CHE 251 is the prerequisite for CHE 252 Organic Chemistry. A comprehensive introduction to the chemistry of carbon compounds. Class periods include the discussion of nomenclature, methods of preparation, and properties of the principal groups of compounds, as well as the mechanisms of organic reactions. The laboratory work in organic chemistry is given in CHE 253, 254, which must be taken simultaneously with CHE 251, 252. Three class periods a week.
