This course explores the problems and solutions in the delivery of oral health services to individuals and groups in community based settings. Issues to be discussed include regulatory practices, oral health status as it pertains to overall health and well-being and factors that contribute to health and disease in groups of people. In community based settings, such as group homes, geriatric facilities, homeless shelters, homes for women and childern in distress, adolescent rehabilitation facilities, hospices and others, students will gain experience in providing direct oral care services; in developing educational programs specifically for the identified group in participatin in health promotion and disease prevention activities as members of interdisciplinary health teams.
