Part two of DEN 301 is designed to provide the student with knowledge of the most advanced modalities in oral care, preventive patient services, and the expanding role of the professional dental hygienist. Through reading assignments, class discussion, and clinical experience, the student will keep abreast of changing trends in dentistry and dental hygiene, and their implications for the control of oral disease. The focus of the course is on the development of advanced clinical dental hygiene skills to ensure the delivery of optimal individual care of patients with special needs through the life span. Clinically, student performance must be evaluated as effective and safe for the patient. Student must pass both the clinical and theoretical components of the course with a grade of 75 or better in order to continue in the program. The semester components of this course must be taken in sequence in one academic year.
