Description:
The focus of this course is on local anesthesia as the primary means of pain management for dental hygiene. Its appropriate use requries that the clinical administrator possess a thorough understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology, pain and pain suppression, pharmacology of local anesthetics, and potential complications and their management. Through classroom lecture and laboratory/clinical practice the student will acquire the knowledge and skill necessary to safely and effectively administer local anesthetic agents and other pain control modalities.
