This course examines the expanding role of the elementary school counselor as required to meet the needs of today’s children. Students learn how to create a developmental school counseling program that is an integral part of the entire educational program in the school. Developmentally appropriate classroom guidance activities, academic expectations, consultation with teachers and parents, conducting small group activities, academic expectations, and helping children meet normal developmental problems and tasks of childhood are stressed.
