3 credits The assumptions of this course are that (1) it is possible to characterize the role of women in the development process, (2) that women as a corporate entity endure unique problems, and (3) that they require special measures to address their development needs. This course is a cross-national survey of the status of women. It is an exploration of the historical and contemporary events that have shaped women’s participation in international development, with theoretical, conceptual, social, economic, political, and cultural levels of analyses of applicable development theories as they identify salient issues in women’ s lives.
