In this laboratory extension of the lecture course JOUR 112, students continue as (or become) staff members of The Trailblazer and apply the basic principles and techniques of copyreading (editing) stories destined for publication. Fur464 2007-08 Vincennes University Catalog ther, students practice the rudiments of writing headlines, designing newspaper pages, and sizing photographs for publication. Editing laboratory also includes on-the-job problem solving, or judgment making, in journalism, such as determining the relative significance of prepared or potential news stories. The laboratory is equipped with a multi-unit desktop computer publishing system. 20 laboratory hours.
