Prerequisites: ERTH 115 and ERTL 115, and students must also qualify for MATH 101. Corequisite: ERTL 216. Fundamental study of minerals--building blocks of solid earth. Physical and chemical characteristics of minerals, their interrelationships, introductory crystallography, descriptive mineralogy, hand specimen identification, geologic occurrence, and rock and mineral associations. Equipment and techniques of mineralogy and brief historical synopsis. Offered in alternate (even-numbered) years. 3 lecture hours.
