CJS 125 (Formerly CJ 112) - Introduction to Search and Seizure and Rules of Criminal Procedure This course presents a practical approach to dealing with the complex and ever-changing laws of criminal procedure. An illumination of the many aspects of police investigatory practices will be highlighted along with explanations and rationale of the laws and recommendations to appropriately and legally deal with the requirements of the laws. Issues to be addressed will include basic individual rights under the United States and Pennsylvania constitutions, the maintenance of public order, arrest, confessions, search and seizure, pretrial identification, etc. Additional content will include a review of the duties, rights, and liabilities of a law enforcement professional and rights guaranteed by the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendments to the United States Constitution, along with the corresponding Amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, and how those rights affect the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of crime.
