This course will focus on the multi faceted dimensions of the modern Middle East, beginning with an historical overview of the ancient and medieval periods preceding it. Course will examine the complex religious, cultural, and economic characteristics of the three major regions of the Middle East, and research the roots of Middle Eastern tensions today. Satisfies the Non-Western Cultures requirement of the Liberal Arts Core. Spring semester. 3 credits.
