This course is designed for the student in the Fitness Specialist Certificate Program planning to study the exercise implications for special populations related to age, medical condition and level of fitness. Emphasis is placed on cardiac conditions, diabetes, obesity, physical disabilities, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), asthma, sensory impairments. Issues and barriers to exercise are included for each of the following groups: seniors, children, athletes, mentally impaired and pregnant and post partum women.
