This course is an attempt to define a modern cultural history of Detroit. A team of three or four faculty members will explore the relationship between society and the arts in Detroit from several aspects: Detroit?s literature, arts, music and architecture; its social conditions and broader American cultural context. Field trips into the city are also included. Course not open to students who have completed ARTH 304, ENGL 304, HIST 304, HUM 304, ENGL 304, or SOC 304.
