The Blues: Art and Culture The blues is a uniquely American musical form that has made an immense contribution to world popular culture. The history of the blues is also the history of Black America from the late 19th century to the present day. Focuses on major blues artists, both rural and urban, to trace the history and development of the blues as a folk art form that expresses both the joy and the despair of the people who created it.
