Normal children in normal circumstances learn the language of their community with ease in a relatively short period of time. Although children are not taught language in any formal way, the fabric of language is already intact by the time school begins. This course aims to provide students with an overview of language acquisition theories and controversies in language acquisition. We will focus on the central topics such as language learning process in young children, and the acquisition of sounds, words, meanings and sentences. Prerequisite(s): ENG 121.
